Job Summary: The position of Associate Vice President for University Advancement exists to assist the university with the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes. This position is responsible for the comprehensive development, alumni and advancement services programs as well as coordinating the work of all advancement staff at the University. The Associate Vice President works closely with other program directors under the supervision of the Vice President for University Advancement.
Participates as a member of the development team in direct support of the Vice President for University Advancement for the purpose of articulating, supporting, and promoting the shared vision of the University.
Provides leadership utilizing best practices to coordinate the planning and implementation of all advancement activities including annual giving, alumni relations, advancement services, major gifts and planned giving.
Integrates a comprehensive annual giving and alumni relations program into the overall institutional engagement, philanthropic and connectivity objectives.
Manages and coordinates all advancement services functions including prospect research, database management, gift processing, and reporting.
Coordinates the fundraising activities and requests of various university departments, advisory boards, and other supporting groups.
Develops, organizes, and coordinates all operational aspects of campaign-based fundraising initiatives including implementing processes and procedures, providing support services to leadership and volunteers, and coordinating campaign communication.
Responsible for facilitating and overseeing all business operations for the MNU Foundation including financial processes and reporting, investment management, endowment administration, and regulatory compliance.
Develops and coordinates all planned giving marketing initiatives including the publication of web resources, direct mail communication, printed collateral, and email communication.
Provides leadership to the operational aspects of major fundraising events and other special events to achieve desired goals and ensure a positive guest experience.
Provides administrative oversight for University Advancement grant development activities and assists the grant coordinator in providing counsel to academic units seeking grant-based funding.
Provides oversight and quality control for all external University Advancement communications by reviewing, editing, and writing publications, printed collateral material, electronic communications, etc.
Hires, trains, guides and assists in the going professional development of fundraising, alumni, and advancement services staff to achieve goals and facilitate accountability plans.
Facilitates the development of annual and long-range strategic plans and departmental evaluations and assessments.
Oversees the development and management of the University Advancement budgets and administrative operations.
Personally manages a portfolio of major and planned giving prospects for the purpose of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors support of the university.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Vice President for University Advancement.
Qualifications/Essential Skills and Experience Required
Minimum of a bachelors degree; masters degree preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated ability and experience in fundraising with at least 2 years of being part of a senior fundraising management team, preferably with higher education.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare proposals, reports, strategic plans, constituent communications, and correspondence.
Campaign administration experience desirable.
Demonstrated success in the design, implementation, and execution of fundraising plans for planned giving, endowment giving, annual giving and capital giving programs.
Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate the need for financial resources at a Christian college or university.
Ability to be personally supportive of the Christian character and mission of the University and able to articulate the distinctives of a Christian liberal arts education.
Experience in working with researching, writing and securing grants from corporations and foundations.
Experience with and mastery of fundraising technology (e.g. Raisers Edge)
Knowledge and understanding of fundraising laws and ethics.
Exceptional work ethic and an ability to be a strong team player.
