Travel: locally to events and meetings in Columbus.
What You Will Accomplish
Ensure highest level host site services and operations support to clients, including event rights holders, visitors, and participants for the successful functioning of amateur, high school, collegiate or owned Sports events and tournaments in Columbus.
Responsibilities will include:
Manage services to national and regional event accounts to customize a service plan unique to each client and to ensure a successful event in Columbus
Lead event servicing for event accounts and new local business including signage, program ads, review RFP’s and executing group needs
Coordinate volunteers and paid Destination Specialists for events.
Coordinate the organization and local community resources
Partner with sports groups and represent the Greater Columbus Sports Commission on local organizing committees (LOC)
Use Simpleview database for the event management process and documenting progress in a timely manner.
Tracking of all assigned clients’ service activity in Simpleview and managing events recaps with marketing department
Communicate issues and updates on client accounts to the Business Development Department
Develop and measure goals of each event, track recurring business to service the groups, record attendance of each event, and document service activity in central database and evaluate post event surveys and reports
Manage event budgets
Assist Business Development Team with analyzing bid specifications and preparing event requirements.
Lead pre-planning client visits and support Business Development during site inspections for future business, setting standard operating policy for site inspections
Build excitement and increase attendance in Columbus by attending sporting events and tournaments the year they are held in Columbus
Support events rights holder efforts through social media
Support event needs for GCSC owned events, including The Morning Sports Report, The Women’s Sports Report, Community Youth Camp and Community Cup
Develop collaborative relationships with community partners
Attend and speak at community district meetings to educate local businesses on Greater Columbus Sports Commission business initiatives and objectives.
Distribute information directly to local hospitality community to educate them on sporting events coming to Columbus.
Build and maintain partner relationships to keep current with Greater Columbus Sports Commission partners and Experience Columbus members and the services they provide in the hospitality industry.
Actively participate and contribute to special event industry associations by attending educational sessions, conferences, and luncheons.
Participate in the Experience Dedicated program and be an active facilitator of the Certified Tourism Ambassador program.
The ideal candidate for this role is highly organized and customer orientated and demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills that ensures high-quality servicing to both our clients and our partners through event coordination. An approachable and professional demeanor is important and the ability to work collaboratively while demonstrating time management skills in a fast-paced environment.

Experienced in the following event areas below (either through education, work experience or a combination of both) typically 3-5 or more years.
Hospitality or event planning
Working directly with hotel, event venues and/or organizations
Managing project timelines and budget (being creative with limited budgets at times)
Strong customer service skills
Focused on helping the team with a positive attitude. Do what it takes on-site and pitch in at any capacity for day of events
A strategic planner with ability to be flexible and problem solve within a fast-changing environment
Approachable and open, with a team orientation, ability to work collaboratively, and who makes time for projects large and small
Highly organized and can handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Effective at communicating with team members and vendors, with the ability to direct the activities of large groups of staff and volunteers
Proficient using of Microsoft Office products and the Internet
Passionate about the product (Columbus) and motivated to exceed expectations
Sports industry experience a plus!
Able to work evenings and weekends and for extended periods of time
Work environment may be indoors or outdoors, dependent on the event and venue.
