How you will impact Ingevity:
In this role, you’ll be responsible for coordinating the sales, use and property tax compliance and audit process for U.S. operations and for assisting with the management of non-U.S. value-added tax (VAT) reporting and compliance. Responsibilities include the proactive ownership of each function, including compliance, strategic planning and reviews by tax authorities. You’ll also provide direct oversight of third party service providers for sales and personal property tax functions. In addition, you will work closely with the federal and state income tax director in ensuring the accurate compliance of fixed assets and assist in the preparation of state income tax returns. In this role, you will report to the director, federal and state tax.
Reconciliation of all sales, use, and property tax accounts, including maintenance of the Vertex system that controls our sales and accrual process.
Oversee the sales and use tax function, including the coordination of a third-party service provider.
Help identify issues, assist with the management of our direct pay procedures, and add value to operations.
Manage all aspects of sales and property tax audits, including working closely with other internal departments and location personnel, along with external consultants that may be involved in the review. Proactively partner with operating team to address opportunities and risks related to current business operations, including support for mergers and acquisitions.
Support the personal property tax service provider with data production requirements, assessment reviews, and approval and reconciliation of funding requests
Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Section 404 (SOX 404) compliance and maintain documentation for areas of responsibility.
Implement procedures to improve the efficiency of the tax department, including training other departments on sales and use tax matters.
Assist the federal and state tax compliance group with the implementation of process improvements, and in preparation of state income tax returns.
Assist in determining the federal and state income tax implications of fixed assets.
Address sales and use tax questions and issues, including internal and external customer contact.
What You Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
Five or more years of experience in sales and property taxes with multi-jurisdictional exposure preferred.
Demonstrated ability to analyze processes and recommend modifications or solutions.
High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and internet research applications, such as CCH.
SAP experience is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail, deadlines and reporting requirements.
