Provide outstanding customer service to donors, patients, coworkers, guests, contracted partners and ordering physician’s office/facility thus ensuring the best possible donation experience and working environment. Adhere to established quality practices while continually seeking to improve and expand upon work performance and knowledge.
• Serve as subject matter expert for all clinical donation/procedure types: Maintain complete familiarity with all departmental, organizational, and quality policies and procedures, as well as contracting agency/ vendor operating manuals.
• Act as back up to the Clinical Services Coordinator to schedule/confirm all clinical donation appointments within required time frames and maintain all appointment schedules; Screen potential clinical patients/ donors, including autologous, directed/ dedicated donors, as well as therapeutic whole blood and double red cell patients according to SOP including registration/ Medical History Interview and vitals screening
• Qualify therapeutic apheresis and cellular therapy patients according to SOP and contracting partner policy, including registration/ Medical History Interview and vitals screening, as applicable; serve as liaison between patients/ ordering physician, Clinical Services management to include WrB Medical Director and contracting agencies as needed.
• Review all request forms, physician’s orders, patient history, medications and lab work, as applicable; Proactively consult with ordering physician, WrB management and Medical Director, as needed, including report of all out-of-range values for timely evaluation to minimize donor/ patient procedure impact; Assist Clinical Services Coordinator with Special Unit Handling documentation, as needed, working closely with Hospital Services and Recruitment staff to meet requirements.
• Perform/assist with/oversee clinical/ special donations per SOP, including patient monitoring and assessment; Access central venous catheters (CVC), perform CVC flush and anticoagulation according to SOP; change CVC dressing as needed; instruct patients on CVC care as needed; administer blood products as ordered and per BTC and contracting hospital policy. Consult with Clinical Nurse Manager and/ or Medical Director, as needed for adverse reactions and/or emergency situations; Respond to patient/ donor reactions according to SOP and contracting facility policy: Identify/treat symptoms, administer medications as ordered; Assist patients with bladder needs, as required. Follow up on patient/ donor reactions according to SOP; serve on rotating call schedule for external clinical procedures with contracting facilities.
• Accurately record all procedure results, patient/donor documentation and WrB Management/ MD/ vendor instructions in electronic database and/or legibly on required forms; review electronic/hard copy documentation, as appropriate, according to SOP; Adhere to cGMPs/cGTPs in all aspects of procedures, patient care, equipment maintenance and documentation
• Work with the Clinical Services and WrB Management to meet institutional and departmental goals and objectives.
• Execute special projects and other duties as assigned by Clinical Nurse Managers and/or VP of Clinical and Donor Services.
• RN with active licensure in the State of Texas, CPR certification required • Minimum 1 year nursing experience in a hospital setting, oncology unit or clinic. A minimum of three years donor qualification related functions in a blood center may be substituted for some clinical experience, • Intensive care unit, ER, pediatrics, apheresis, dialysis and/or oncology experience preferred • Phlebotomy experience required. • Professional appearance and demeanor • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Compassionate interpersonal skills • Excellent customer service skills • Complex problem solving skills • Effective organization skills • Intermediate computer skills • Punctual and dependable • Must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid Texas driver’s license, maintain an acceptable driving record and proof of liability insurance. • Ability to interpret and respond appropriately to sensitive/confidential information and situations • Ability to stand for long periods • Ability to maintain focus and make sound judgments in a busy/distracting environment • Ability to perform the same task repeatedly while maintaining a high level of accuracy • Ability to read/follow SOPs, including external facility polices and to maintain complete/accurate records • Ability to work well in a team environment • Ability to maintain on call responsibilities and flex set schedule to include evenings or alternate days of the week as needed; report to work as scheduled and adhere to all organizational time keeping policies • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with large equipment transportation using a ramp to contracted facilities in a company vehicle
