We are looking for an outstanding Business Manager to assist with devising and implementing strategies and tactics that result in workforce attachment, employment retention, career advancement, target-wage attainment, increased earnings, and similar performance domains for North Lawndale Employment Network program participants and for our contractual obligations. We want someone with a passion for and demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged families as well as sensitivity to the needs of diverse racial and ethnic populations. Further, we want someone who understands the critical need for placing clients in positions with a family supporting wage. We want someone with the ability to use persuasive approaches to convert potential employers into business customers. In addition, we want someone who is results-driven and with an established record of presenting solutions for developing, cultivating and maintaining employer relationships.
What you’ll do
Secure entry level and middle-wage employment opportunities for NLEN program graduates by researching, and cultivating meaningful business partnership with sector/industry leaders.
Utilize a sectorial approach to job placement efforts, with emphasis on the following sectors, TDL, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Retail and customer service
Market career planning services and programs to business, industry and non-profits by promoting NLEN programs, targeting mailings and e-mailings, attending promotional events, presenting information and workshops at various business functions, and through involvement in business associations
Initiate, nurture and maintain professional business and employer affiliations - specifically LBRA Lawndale Business, NLCCC, and other community and neighborhood based groups
Manage NLEN’s Transitional Jobs program in accordance with guidelines established by the City of Chicago and the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Educate employer contacts on the use of certificates of rehabilitation, certificates of relief from disability, federal bonding and other incentive tools to alleviate concerns about potential liability associated with the hiring of former offender clients
Conduct an annual meeting with employers on the state of NLEN employer services, benefits in partnership with LBRA
Accurately record the industry sector, business contact information, starting wage and benefits offered for each hiring record
Document in Salesforce all job placements, and retention data at 30, 60, 90 and 180 days, in addition to all promotions, title changes, and terminations in accordance with established procedures to support invoices for performance-based benchmarks
Facilitate workshops for program graduates who need support completing online applications and uploading resumes to online job portals
Conduct monthly meetings with program directors to celebrate accomplishments, recommend strategies for improving job placement results and stayed informed of new workforce development practices and policies
Who You Are
You have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Policy, Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution
You have 3 years of employment placement or case management experience
You may have owned a business or worked in human resources and know the inner workings and challenges of hiring new employees
You have the ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a strong focus on metrics and data driven decision making, preferably in a not for profit organization
You have at least two years of experience of working with a client data management system similar to Salesforce or NowPow
You have exceptional project management, prioritization, and planning skills, with demonstrated success
Ideally, you have prior experience working with clients with arrest and conviction records, homeless or underprivileged families and low income families ; and knowledge of research and current trends in re-entry and workforce development
You have a car with automobile insurance coverage and a valid Illinois driver’s license

About The North Lawndale Employment Network
The North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN) assists North Lawndale residents through innovative employment initiatives that lead to economic advancement and an improved quality of life. NLEN was founded in 1999 through an 18-month community planning effort led by the Steans Family Foundation to serve the unmet employment needs of the North Lawndale community. In 2004, we launched Sweet Beginnings, a social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of the North Lawndale Employment Network.
NLEN continually updates its services to meet the employment needs of clients and the community at large. NLEN’s approach to addressing the extremely high rates of unemployment and underemployment in North Lawndale is to offer employment services and transitional jobs to North Lawndale residents, many of whom are formerly incarcerated persons and others with significant barriers to employment.
