As part of the Learning and Development team, the L&D Trainer will facilitate workshops on a variety of topics including soft skills courses, leadership courses and software and hardware courses offered to GT attorneys and staff. Trainers collaborate with Instructional Designers, subject matter experts and project sponsors to create, design, and develop learning resources including job aides, quick reference cards, help documentation, guides and other resources used when facilitating live classroom training, virtual training and question and answer sessions. Additionally, trainers provide technical and operational support as needed and help evaluate and promote the training-related initiatives of the Firm. Trainers also undertake special projects, as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
Partner with local human resources, business directors or department heads to conduct performance and gap analysis to recommend and implement appropriate learning interventions to address skill gaps and provide feedback to management.
Facilitate and conduct training workshops for attorneys, secretaries and staff on the Firm’s core applications. Training delivery formats include live classroom, virtual training, and one-on-one instruction.
Effectively use the firm’s virtual platforms to ensure the learning environment is engaging; working in conjunction with other members of the learning team as needed to keep up with the new features of the virtual platform.
Collaborate with instructional designers to design and develop world-class engaging programs; Define objectives, outline course content and exercises, develop content, assessments and supporting materials for learning interventions including classroom instruction, virtual training, video, eLearning and weekly tips.
Work with instructional designers to ensure firm-branded templates are used and that all deliverables are reviewed for quality assurance prior to implementation. Serve as a consultant to internal stakeholders assisting them in determining employee training and development needs, technological skill set, and upskilling opportunities and resources available to address needs.
Develop and maintain effective client service relationships across GT and follow up with relevant parties to ensure specific needs are met.
Plan and develop specialized training for various local practice groups and administrative departments on an as-needed basis.
Team up with software rollout teams by participating in pilot orientation sessions, conducting testing and reporting results, soliciting feedback from pilot users, and compiling statistics of overall pilot results.
Review and edit existing training documentation to be current with firm-wide upgrades and/or new software as requested.
Generate class rosters and reports and updates attendance in GT’s Learning Management System. Provide training metrics as required.
Identify and recommend continual areas for improvement to achieve and deliver higher quality service to our end users.
Stay up-to-date with current trends in training, technology, and instructional delivery methods.
Perform other job-related duties as required.
Skills & Competencies
Proven proficiency in facilitating training programs in classroom and virtual environment.
Must be proficient in the application of instructional design, curriculum design, and adult-learning principles.
Strong technical knowledge of multiple software applications used in a legal environment including MS Office 2016 and higher, iManage FileSite/DeskSite or similar large document management system, and BigHand HyperStyles or similar document production tools.
Ability to establish credibility with client base as a valuable resource and consultant in technical training and applications.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent presentation skills.
A self-starter who takes ownership of assigned projects and shows commitment to the job; ability to work independently.
Strong project management skills.
Qualifications & Prior Experience:
BA in education or related field or equivalent in education and experience
5 years of experience in an education and training environment, preferably in a professional services organization
Experience teaching non-technology focused courses a plus (soft-skills and other professional development courseware)
Prior legal industry experience a plus
CPLP a plus
