In Australia the Diners Club franchise is owned and run by Citi and the Diners Club team form part of the Citi Cards and Loans business. The Australian franchise has a leading corporate card portfolio that includes the whole of the Australian Government and in late 2018, Citi launched a new Diners Club consumer card with an accelerated earn rate and premium travel and lifestyle benefits.
The Diners Club Merchant Acquiring team has been established to accelerate growth of the Diners Club merchant acceptance footprint in Australia; instore at POS, online, cross border and includes the roll out of contactless card acceptance. With a strong presence already established in traditional corporate spend categories the forward focus is expansion in the consumer segment specifically to support the new consumer card product experience.
The Head of Diners Club Merchant Acquiring position has opened as a 12 month contract opportunity to cover for the incumbent's maternity leave. This position reports to the Head of Diners Club Sales and leads a dynamic team of 5 sales and product professionals.
The position is directly accountable for delivery of all elements of the Merchant Acquiring Strategy with a particular focus on; accelerated expansion of the acceptance footprint by signing strategic merchant hold outs, design and execution of scalable programs and roll out of contactless acceptance.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned people leader and able to demonstrate proficiency and balance between both a sales/relationship manager and a payments SME.
Key accountabilities include:
· Accelerate the roll out of contactless enablement by taking a leading role in negotiations with key acquiring partners · Strategically grow the Diners Club merchant footprint through "Tier A" merchant signings that will support consumer card spend · Accelerate Diners Club merchant footprint growth through scalable acquisition programs like Telesales, Field Sales and Mass Deals etc. · Leverage Discover Global Network to acquire strategic cross border merchants · Strengthen relationships with existing strategic merchants through effective value exchange · Increase intensity of exiting merchant engagement framework · Manage a diverse team of 5 sales and product professionals to deliver core objectives · Manage the team's professional development through coaching, support and engagement · Lead and support cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiencies and enhanced compliance through the merchant onboarding process
Skills and experiences required:
· Bachelor degree in Business, Economics or related discipline · Minimum 10 years in financial services (ideally most spent in issuing or acquiring) · Existing relationships within the payments ecosystem is advantageous · Proven experience leading a high performing team and managing direct reports with the ability to foster strong team dynamics · Demonstrated understanding of the merchant acquiring landscape including end to end knowledge of the authorization and settlement processes and associated technology · Sound understanding of the Australian payments landscape, current and emerging payment solutions · Results driven and self-motivated · Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates empathy · Strong influencing and negotiating skills
